  • How long should I have counselling for?
That is a very personal question and will depend entirely on what you would like to achieve, your schedule, and your budget. Some people stay in counselling for years, some have it for months, some have a single session and feel they have achieved what they needed to. It is not uncommon to have counselling, finish, and then return at a later time if more issues pop up or a top-up is needed. We can discuss your expectations and preferences about the duration of counselling in your consultation, and I will check in every now and then during sessions to see whether our initial expectations still feel right.
  • I need emergency help right now.
Whatever is happening I am deeply sorry and it is important for you to know that you are not alone. If you are in immediate danger due to suicidal thoughts or a mental health crisis: Step 1) If you need the help of emergency services such as the police or ambulance, call 999 now. Step 2) Please call your GP immediately and explain what is going on. Step 3) If you have a trusted friend or family member, contact them and let them know what's going on. Step 4) If you need additional support or don't have any trusted friends or family available please call one of the below numbers, take a taxi or have a friend drive you to A&E, or, if local, drop in to the crisis service at Solihull Mind. - Samaritans at any time to discuss anything that is upsetting you on 116 123. - National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK on 0800 689 5652 (6pm–3:30am every day). - Text SHOUT to 85258. Shout offers a confidential 24/7 text service providing support if you are in crisis and need immediate help and don't want to talk on the phone. - If you identify as LGBT+, you can call Switchboard on 0300 330 0630 (10am–10pm every day). Phone operators all identify as LGBT+.
  • How much does it cost?
A standard hour-long session costs £50 or £45 depending on the type of session. Please click here for more information. It is payable via cash, card, transfer, or PayPal. Payment is preferred to be received upon booking, as your appointment is only confirmed upon payment being received. Payment must be received at least 24 hours before your appointment is due to start. Please be aware that I operate a strict 24 hour cancellation policy.
  • Will you give me advice?
No. Counselling is not about giving advice for two simple reasons. 1) Your life is unique. You are the best person to decide how to move forward, I am here to help you make the way forward clearer, and to help you to feel more confident in getting there. 2) One of the aims of counselling is to help you to become more confident in yourself and learn to act in healthier ways. If I made decisions for you or gave you answers, you may never grow or learn to trust yourself.
  • Do you provide couples, family, or child counselling?
Currently, I unfortunately do not. However, I am in the process of starting a Masters Degree in relationship psychotherapy which will allow me to work with all of the above. I appreciate your patience and ask that if you are still seeking couples, family or child/young person counselling in a year or two, please get in touch.
  • What happens during a session?
Ultimately, it is up to you what we spend the hour session doing and what it is you would like to focus on. However, we will work together by talking through your issues and where necessary I may use more "directive interventions". This means that sometimes I may teach you tools you can use, or ask you to perform specific actions if I think it may be beneficial in helping you.
  • Do I need an appointment or can I just turn up?
Healing Roots runs from a private, residentual property and operates a strict appointment only policy. Clients and people with queries are asked to contact me via phone, text, email, or the contact form on this website to make an appointment before coming to the property. All contact details can be found on the contact page. If you need urgent help, please contact your GP. Solihull Mind also offer a crisis/drop-in service if you need help, whether it's a chat and a cup of tea, or one-off crisis support.
  • Do you do any discounts?
Yes. There are three different types of discount ranging from 10% to 50% off session costs. Please click here for more information.
  • What is counselling?
Generally, mental health counselling revolves around talking about your issues and feelings in order to improve your mental health, reduce the intensity of negative feelings and change unhealthy thoughts/behaviours to reduce suffering. That is not to say that someone who has undergone counselling will never feel sad or always be in control of their emotions - we are all human! The idea is simply to help you get from where you are, to where you want to be (or at least give you the tools to get there).

Healing Roots operates from residential premises by appointment only and walk-ins are not accepted. You will be sent the instructions on how to find the property upon booking.
